2016 Interior Design Trends Inspired by Mother Nature

Our connection with Mother Nature is being beautifully showcased in the upcoming interior design trends for 2016, and natural light, wood floors, and greenspace are all making the top of the list.

Here are the top ten inspiring design trends to watch for this year:

White, White, and More White

Benjamin Moore released their colours for 2016, and the focus was on white. While we’ve already seen this trend ascend steadily in the last couple of years, clean, minimalist, and timeless, white rooms are becoming even more and more popular.
Designers are enjoying their ability to use the white backdrop to set the scene of serenity, and mix it with accent pieces that really pop and pique interest.

Natural Light

Homes that are filled with natural light are healthier, happier places to live. Sunlight not only offers us a healthy dose of Vitamin D, but is an elemental part of our existence. Natural light is more environmentally friendly too, as it reduces the need to use electrical light during the day. The Residences at Gateway have been designed so that each dwelling is a corner unit, allowing natural light to flow into every corner of the home.

Elements of nature can be found in all aspects of upcoming 2016 designs. From natural wood flooring, to bamboo coffee tables and marble kitchen counters, anything that connects homeowners to Mother Nature is trending. The ability to set a scene of serenity and peace is key to why designers are opting for a naturally inspired feel, and the organic outcome is one of calm and openness.

Greenspaces

Designers are going the extra mile and finding how to bring green spaces indoors in new ways. From edible windowsill herb gardens, to large patios with lots of plants and landscaping designed to both heat and cool, Mother Nature is trumping design priorities.

Quality

In an era where less is more, the desire for quality over quantity in 2016 has been demonstrated in the design world. Homeowners are choosing high-end appliances and countertops, radiant floors, feature lighting and larger windows to let the sun shine in!

When it comes to lighting large spaces, designers are using recessed lighting to provide a softer ambiance in every room. Vintage looking chandeliers will be used as focal points in the room, but even though they look vintage, they will host green technology with LED lights.

Brass, Copper, and Wood

2016 will bring a host of brass, copper, and wood accents to homes near you. Ranging from large wood tables to small brass décor accents, we will see a mix of wood and metals in all different types of decor. These trends will provide homeowners with a fun and cost effective way to spruce up a room for a fraction of the cost when compared to a complete room renovation, and also keeps on trend with a salute to nature.

Functional, Multi-Use Pieces

Continuing with the minimalistic look, designers are creating places where people can enjoy a multitude of activities all in one space. This has been demonstrated where a dining room can easily entertain eight people in the evening and transform into a home office during the day.

Bringing the Spa Home

Large, luxurious bathrooms offer owners a mini retreat every single day. With a heavy focus on whites and natural influences, a visit to a 2016 designer bathroom will have you expecting a spa service before you go. Don’t forget your white robe!

Green Communities

Now more than ever, potential buyers are requiring developers to build communities that have a low carbon footprint, with as many low impact, sustainable elements of design as possible. The Residences are proud to be following this trend in many ways.
